KENYA - TURKANA

Northern Kenya.  One of the most arid and most deprived areas in Kenya, if not the whole of Africa. But the people there want the best for their children as anyone else.  We teamed up with an amazing Turkanan individual and put our time, effort and resource into building a school - literally in the middle of nowhere.  The picture below shows the school that existed back in 2006 - there was room for improvement!

BUILDING THE SCHOOL

Building a primary school and the infrastructure for delivering life saving water in Turkana presented us with all sorts of challenges.  But the Turkanans had the skills, knowledge and experience and slowly the school began to take shape.

THE RESULTS

By 2012 we had not only built a school, but also managed to deliver piped water for the first time.  The school was such a success that although built to be a nursery school, it was soon taken up by the government and turned into the main primary school
